What a week! Last Saturday we were at 8:30 am to get to Loughborough Junction for 10 am to set up for ‘Thick as Thieves’ recalls. Inevitably road works slowed us down so we arrived at the same time as one of the actors (note to self, next time get there even earlier to prepare for the eager beavers…though there’s a lot to be said about this particular beaver). The start is always the worst bit; everyone coming in, setting out their chairs and looking expectantly at me to start the workshop. A bit of babble about the play later and we’re off.
I always have a plan of sections that I want to see and who I want to see do them and who I would like to see together. This plan does however have to get changed pretty much immediately because, trains being the reliable things they are, someone is late and another, unfortunately, could now no longer make it. Will I ever run an audition where public transport or illness won’t disrupt my plans? I hope so. Having said that, I will absolutely change my mind about what I want in the room anyway.
A few hours later, the audition was over and the pacing and discussions began. Over this week, contracts were sent out, signed and decisions were firmed…
